    Lok Adalat

    Lok Adalat is a mechanism for settling disputes amicably, outside of court. It is also known as the People’s Court. Lok Adalat is governed by the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987

    Permanent Lok Adalat :

    Under Section-22 A and B of the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, permanent Lok Adalats have been constituted for public utility services in 05 districts of Bilaspur, Raipur, Jagdalpur from the year 2007 and in Durg and Surguja (Ambikapur) from the year 2011. It covers the disputes related to the public utility namely service of Transport, Post-Telegraph or Telephone, Supply of Power, Electricity or Water to the public by any installation, System of public sanitation or hygiene, Service in Dispensary or Hospital, Insurance Service, Services of Banking and Other Financial Institutions, Supply of any type of fuel by an establishment to the General Public, Educational or Educational Institutions, Housing and Real Estate Service etc.

    National Lok Adalat :

    • National Level Lok Adalats are held for at regular intervals where on a single day Lok Adalats are held throughout the country, in all the courts right from the Supreme Court till the Taluk Levels wherein cases are disposed off in huge numbers. From February 2015, National Lok Adalats are being held on a specific subject matter every month.
    • Held at regular intervals across the country on a specific day.
    • Aims to resolve a large number of cases simultaneously in all courts from the Supreme Court to Taluka Levels.
    • Focuses on various subject matters each month, promoting mass resolution of disputes.
